The X Larisa Gergieva and Guests International festival continues to delight true music lovers. This time the recital was given by the 14-years-old pianist Alexander Malofeev. She mentioned that Alexander is a definitely gifted musician and supposed that he is likely to become one of the truly outstanding pianists in the near future. Generally speaking, it is a lucky opportunity to attend the performance of Alexander Malofeev in Ossetia, where he will not appear soon because of his busy schedule. This year alone he performed with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra under Kazuki Yamada at the International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival, had solo concerts at the Roque d’Anthéron piano festival and at the Annecy Classic Festival, took part at the X International music festival Stars on Baikal, Irkutsk. At Stars on Baikal festival Alexander Malofeev with the distinguished pianist Denis Matsuev and the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev performed Concerto in F for Three Pianos and Orchestra. Denis Matsuev commented afterwards the performance of the young musician: ‘There is symthonic thinking in his manner of playing… I can see him developing and progressing dynamically.’

Alexander Malofeev first took interest in music when he was 5. Three years later he gained his first victory as the winner of the International Classical Music Festival Competition “Tercentenary piano" (Ruza). Nowadays the young pianist has already performed with lots of world-known symphony orchestras at the most prestigious venues in Russia and abroad. He has a great track record of competitions such as the VIII International Tchaikovsky Youth Competition (Moscow, Gold Medal), the Mozart-Wunderkind international competition (Austria, Grand Prix), the Internet Music Competition (Serbia, 1st prize), the I International Young Pianists’ Competition Astana Piano Passion (Astana, 1st prize), the Stairway to the Stars international festival (Moscow, Grand Prix), the Youth Delphic Games of Russia (Moscow, Gold Medal), the International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz, the All-Russian competition Young Talents of Russia and so on. Alexander Malofeev is also a scholar student of the Fund "New Names of Moscow", of Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation, of the Government of Moscow and the recipient of the Public Recognition Award. Now he studies in Gnesins College under professor Elena Berezkina. Vladikavkaz audience was impressed by the solo concert by such a talented musician.

The performance was truly breathtaking. His musical maturity, untypical for his age, captivated the listeners even more than his virtuosity. Emotionality of the young pianist kept the audience engaged. In the first part of the concert Alexander Malofeev performed Tchaikovsky, Medtner and Stravinsky compositions. The second part he started with Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt, the one that allowed him to win the Gold Medal at the VIII International Tchaikovsky Youth Competition. It was followed by Consolation, Mephisto Waltz, Étude by Franz Liszt and Scherzo by Chopin. The splendid performance was rewarded with great ovation. Alexander returned four times for the encores. The host of the festival, Larisa Gergieva, came onto the stage at the end of the concert, presented him a bunch of flowers and extended her good wishes. “You have won the hearts of Vladikavkaz audience, we will watch your following achievements and be glad to see you here again,” Larisa Gergieva remarked. The pianist replied, smiling from the stage: “I was really happy to accept the invitation by Larisa Gergieva as it is a great opportunity to acquaint myself with the town and to perform at the festival for the new audience. I feel heavy responsibility but I am also truly delighted to be a part of this festival as well as the other prominent maestros. Thank you for listening!”

To sum up, Alexander Malofeev left a lasting impression. The amazed audience will not forget any time soon the performance of the young prodigy.
